smartlink is a home automation & security app white-labeled for home security businesses; it lets users control lights, thermostat, door locks, security panel, and cameras. when i joined the app was outdated and often non-functional, so i led a multi-year redesign to make the ui modern, clean, and easy to white-label. i worked with engineers on builds and tickets, tested and published releases to the app store, and continuously refined the product based on user feedback.
-
i began with stakeholder interviews and reviewed user feedback to define goals and priority issues. i mapped user journeys and produced low-fidelity wireframes to explore information hierarchy, then moved to high-fidelity screens and a reusable component system for consistent white-labeling. i partnered closely with engineers, wrote tickets, provided specs and html/css assets, and managed releases. i personally tested builds and coordinated app store publishing. after launch i monitored reviews and analytics, triaged issues, and rolled out iterative refinements.

the redesign delivered a modern, reliable white-label app with restored core functionality and successful app store releases. implementation of a reusable component system reduced frontend rework and sped up new partner rollouts. post-launch, i monitored reviews and analytics, reviewed ui tickets from engineers, and shipped incremental updates that steadily improved stability and ux.

as the lead ui/ux designer, i worked directly with the vp of product, cto, and ceo, and collaborated closely with frontend and backend engineers.
smartlink (2017)
here’s a motion graphics video I created showcasing smartlink’s features and its seamless integration with your home security system and smart home automation devices.
adapted from the smartlink app and later white-labeled for residential security systems, this interface was designed to simplify smart home control through a clean and intuitive user experience.
the most rewarding feedback came unexpectedly. after visiting my sister’s house, i realized the security panel she had recently installed displayed the app interface i had designed. without knowing I was involved, she told me how much she loved the interface and how seamless it felt to use day to day.
seeing my design become such a seamless part of someone’s everyday life definitely made me proud to be a designer. it was one of those rare moments where i got to see my work outside of an office setting and actually integrated into someone’s home and daily routine. experiences like that are what made me fall in love with ux design in the first place.
